School Poem

"School"
That means "easy."
I don't find it
quite so breezy.

Learn addition.
Then subtraction.
Multiply.
Divide a fraction.
Spelling. Science.
Reading. Writing.
Social studies.
Speech reciting.
Testing. Testing.
Still more Testing.
Not much breaks.
Not much resting.

I complained but
no one listened.
Maybe school
isn't.

World War 1

The WW1 started in July the 28th 1914, when A Serbian nationalist killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife and Austria-Hungary declared war and that was the first World War 1. When they had the many people died but Serbia won the war and they had victory. Then a year later the Turks and the Anzacs had a fight and the Turks won because the had machine guns bombs and lots as of stuff.

The Turks won the war because they had really strong trenches and they had really good machine guns that could kill somebody very easy some times in the war the men would see dead people from their team and would run and get them and take them to the hospital underground in the trenches while the battle is going on.

If they are hurt very badly they go to the underground hospital and the doctors fix them up and they get better and the they have to go back and fight to help their squad to try and win the war.

Anzac Remembrance Ceremony

Today, a man called Lieutenant Geoffrey Cocks came to Glenbrae School to talk to us about Anzac and about his life in the army and how it was in the army. First we sang He honore, he kororia Maungarongo ki te whenua Whakaaro, Whakaaro pai e Kinga tangata katoa Ake ake, ake ake Amine Te Atua, te piringa toku oranga toku oranga. Then after that he told us about his medals and he told us that the ones on his left side of his chest were his and on the right side of chest was his father's medals he told us that he father’s rank was Colonel when he left the army.

Later on, we said a poem that said They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Then after we sat down and room 4 put their crosses on the field of remembrance and then room 1 put their crosses and then room 5 put their crosses on the field of remembrance then room 7 put their crosses on the field of remembrance then room 8 put their crosses on the field of remembrance then room 9 put their crosses on the field of remembrance then finally it was our class room 10 to put their crosses on the field of remembrance.

Then later on room 7, room 9 and room 10 went to the hall to listen to what Lieutenant Geoffrey Cocks was saying he told us that in the army they had good food and cool uniform and they were often doing drills like going up the mountain carrying things that were 50 to 60 pounds and it made them fit and they had 8 pack and 6 pack and they had massive muscles. Finally we asked lots of questions and we went back to class.

Gallipoli Dawn Service Overflow

The dawn service was in the night at dawn and then lots of people were sad because some people from their family died in the World War 1 and World War 2 they had red poppies because thats were there flower grew when they had their war and they thought it was a nice and respectul way to remember the people who died in the war. They went to war because they didn't want the Germans and Turks and the Japanese to rule over the world.

If it wasn't for the Anzacs, the Germans and Turks and the Japanese could have taken over New Zealand and Australia and the Pacific Islands.

Last week Wednesday we went to Pt England beach to welcome the malama honua people from hawaii, we learnt that they did not use any modern technology and they use the stars, birds and the wind.

They used the traditional way because it was their culture and they knew how to use the stars, bird, sea and the sky to navigate the big ocean so when they came the whole schools from the east side went to welcome the malama honua people from hawaii.

They were lots of people at Pt England and they were also people with cameras and when the malama honua people came we singed He honore, he kororia Maungarongo ki te whenua Whakaaro pai e Kinga tangata katoa Ake ake, ake ake Amine Te Atua, te piringa and

Reflection of Term 1

Monday 30 March 2015

When school started in term 1  we had assembly and I was in room 10 but I wanted to be in room 9 to be with my other friends and then I was really sad because I was in room 10.

During term 1 we had water fun day and we also had the MADD workshop with Petia and Caroline where we learnt to never forget your culture and everybody has the seven smarts. We also learnt about Albert Einstein who told people to learn from his brain. We learnt that Thomas Edison was the first to make a long lasting electric bulb light, phonograph and the motion picture camera.Petia and Caroline told us that he had 7 powders in different parts of his brain but the other really smart scientist who were dead had theirs in one part of their brain so Professor Albert Einstein was the smartest out of all of them and people learnt a lot from him and his brain.

KiwiCan came to our school. The Kiwi Can Leaders were Matt as Mr Numia and Marina as Ms Tuia, they came here in February and now they are in Room 11. Our catchphrases were “Kiwi Can says work together achieve our goals so I can trust you and you can trust me”. and “Kiwi Can says be my mate I look out for you and you look out for me.” We learnt to respect people when they are talking and one person talking at a time and you have to have a positive attitude not a negative attitude.

In term one we also had the Life Education Caravan with Nicola and we learnt that drugs can kill you and the man on the tv was saying that there is seven ladders to reach puberty and you can get angry for nothing and you can cry for nothing if you have lots of pimples on your face that means you are going through puberty and you are shy because people are gonna laugh at you she also told us that in high school she had a friend who was a boy that had lots as of pimples on his face and they looked really yucky and they were disgusting.

Word Problems with Mrs Tofa and my group

Today our group circles had a maths word problem with Mrs Tofa our problem was James is making pineapple pies. He needs 2/3s of a pineapple for one pie. How many pineapple pies can he make with 12 apple pies? So this was my strategy I drew 12 pineapples and cut them into 2/3s each and I had 12/3s left so I did 6x3 = 18 and thats how I got my answer.

Madd messenger

Today at MADD we did skits about what we are good at from the seven smarts. At MADD we learnt that learn from your mistakes and it takes about 10,000 hours for you to become a master at something.

Then we did skits about what we are good at Moses, Danny Joe, Taki, Sam, Mele and Chris did a touch training skit and then they had a game and we learnt that one person from the team was lacking and he thought that he didn’t need to train.

Then next came Keti, Manaue, Kyana lee and Mata who were the judges at the x factor and Fusi was the auditioner and the first time she went she was really stink at playing the ukelele and then next year she came back and she won the x factor and the judges were amazed and the lesson was NO MEANS KNOWLEDGE.
